Westbrook Water Tanks

At Southern Cross we’ve been building and designing water tanks Westbrook residents can rely on for over a century.
Westbrook residents know that they have the backing and support of one of the most iconic names in Australian water storage and water solutions.
Many Queensland residents still turn to a Southern Cross water tank to help meet their water storage needs, because they are mindful of their water storage requirements, and reliability.
Westbrook was most likely named after the town the founder John “Tinker” Campbell grew up in, near Portland, ME in the United States.

Water Tank Sizes

With a range of tank sizes from 26kL – 600kL in our rural tanks, and from 12kL – 1900kL in our commercial tanks (with sizes outside this range available on request) you can rest assured that we have the right size tank to suit your water storage needs.

All Southern Cross Tanks can come in either standard ZINCALUME ® Galvanised Steel, or any of the following colours, which would be factory applied to the external wall sheets prior to shipping.

Water Storage Challenges

Rain is a pleasant sight for many people across Queensland, but due to modern conveniences like roads and paving, significant rain can lead to flash flooding, endangering homes and the ecosystem.
Installing a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help reduce the amount of water building up from stormwater run-off, and lower the risk of flash flooding.
Westbrook is often impacted by floodwaters from stormwater in the Toowoomba region,  as water runs inland after cyclones or summer storms.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer

Sadly the long hot summers in Westbrook leave it, similar to much of Australia, susceptible to wide-spread bushfires. Even with the fact that much of Westbrook’s rainfall comes in the warmer months, this often leads to long grasses which burn easily.

Southern Cross Water are specialists when it relates to fire tanks, and can install a fire tank for your home or industrial space to help protect your property in the event of bushfire.
If a bushfire has passed through your property, it is encouraged that you get your water quality tested for safety if you intend to carry on using it for household water. Having said that it will still be safe for gardening or fire security.
The Westbrook climate
The Westbrook region is in a humid subtropical climate zone, resulting in warm, humid and wet summers, with drier cooler winters.
The rainfall in Westbrook averages 840mm a year, making it green and welcoming most of the year round.
Westbrook’s climate has long led itself to a history of grazing and cattle running, with pastoralist and merchant John “Tinker” Campbell first making use of the region as far back as 1841

The farm tank specialists
As specialists in the servicing, setup, design and manufacture of global water storage systems, we take pride in the design and integrity of our fire tanks.
Every tank we manufacture is in-house designed and engineered, and could be built for all applications, including specific seismic positions, and to endure high-wind and cyclonic areas.
Tanks that comply to additional international fire codes can be designed and provided to certain customer requirements.
Over 100 years of experience
From the inaugural Southern Cross windmill wheeling off the Toowoomba Foundry line in 1903, and the original Southern Cross Water Tank over 100 years ago, nobody has expertise like we do of dealing with Westbrook and Australia’s unique water storage needs.
In the late 60’s, we built the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank, and have welcomed over half a century of innovation and development since then.
Squatter Tanks were an innovative way for Australians to store vast quantities of water in an effecting and affordable manner – a number of these tanks are still standing to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

When the Griffiths family formed the Southern Cross brand out of the Toowoomba Foundry, they almost certainly didn’t know that it would go on to become such an iconic Australian brand, still in operation over a hundred years in the future.

Southern Cross is an Australian owned brand, and we still operate out of Loganholme to this day, assisting Australians from all walks of life, from rural families, to irrigators, to business on industrial sites – even educational institutions.
Reliable in a pinch

Disaster struck the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2015, when a water tank built by one of our competitors suffered a devastating structural failure, bursting the tanks and washing approximately 2.5 million litres of destructive water over Kawana way, even sweeping away a family vehicle.

In the wake of the disaster, the developer of the University Hospital site enlisted Southern Cross to engineer and manufacture two new water storage tanks for the site, and the high standard engineering for those tanks has since become a standard for future commercial projects to comply to.

Westbrook Local Knowledge

Despite a slow start, Westbrook has become one of the fastest growing towns in the Toowoomba region as the Toowoomba suburbs spread.
