Pittsworth is located in a humid subtropical climate zone, resulting in warm, humid and wet summers, with drier cooler winters. The town also neighbours the alluvium floodplains of the Darling Downs.
The Pittsworth region nets 700mm of average annual rainfall, keeping the floodplains plentiful and provides for some of the best quality grains and cotton in Australia.
Pittsworth today remains an agricultural hub for the region, with the water from the floodplains also proving incredibly useful as an irrigation source for growers and graziers.

In 1903, the original Southern Cross windmill was manufactured by the Griffiths family at the Toowoomba Foundry, and soon after so was the first Southern Cross water tank, leaving us with unparalleled expertise in dealing with towns like Pittsworth’s water storage needs.

As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

There was no way anyone could have forecast the birth of an Australian icon when the Griffiths family watched the very first windmill roll off the Toowoomba Foundry line over a hundred years ago.

Southern Cross is an Australian owned brand, and we still operate out of Loganholme to this day, servicing Australians from all walks of life, from rural families, to irrigators, to business on industrial sites– even schools and universities.
Reliable in a pinch

In 2015, a water storage tank at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital sustained a structiral failure, causing the tank to flood the nearby Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, washing away a family vehicle and causing destruction to the surroundings.

Following this tragedy, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross to construct a pair of new tanks on the site, and the quality of these Southern Cross tanks served to set the standard for many commercial projects from that point forward.

Each year the town hosts the Pittsworth sprints, an annual car show attracting drivers and car enthusiasts from around the country.

One time words fastest athlete Arthur Postle, known as the “Crimson Flash”, hailed from Pittsworth, and the local museum is home to a display of memorabilia honouring him.
