Airlie Beach Water Tanks

For over a century , Southern Cross have been designing and building water tanks Airlie Beach residents can trust.
People of Airlie Beach know that they have the support of one of Australia’s most recognisable names in water harvesting and water storage solutions.
Many Queensland residents still turn to a Southern Cross water tank to help meet their water storage needs, because they are mindful of their water storage requirements, and reliability.
Airlie Beach is one of the most popular departure points for the Great Barrier Reef, and cruise ships often anchor off of the coast so that passengers can visit the town and its beautiful beaches.

Water Storage Challenges

Rain is a pleasant sight for many people across Queensland, but as a result of modern conveniences like as roads and paving, excessive rain can cause flash flooding, endangering homes and the ecosystem.
Attaching a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help reduce the amount of water accumulating from stormwater run-off, and help reduce the likelihood of flash flooding.
As with many towns in central and northern Queensland, Airlie Beach is prone to cyclones and flash flooding in the wet season, and this can cause widespread damage to homes and roads.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer

Unfortunately, due to much of Australia’s climate, bushfires are a constant risk in the long, hot summers, and Airlie Beach is no different. Despite most of the region’s rains coming in the summer months, the lush grasses and scorching days can easily cause brushfires.

Fortunately, Southern Cross are the fire tank specialists, and can effectively and proficiently fit your property or home with a fire tank to help protect you from wildfires.
After a bushfire passes through your property, Southern Cross advises that you have your water tank tested for water safety if you’re intending to continue using it for drinkable water. It will continue to be safe for fire protection or gardening.
The Airlie Beach climate
Airlie Beach lies within a subtropical climate region, which means year round warm to mild temperatures, with drier winters and wetter summers.
Airlie Beach registers an annual rainfall of just over 1000mm on average, which results in reliable water harvesting and water storage for its residents.
Due to the plentiful rainfall, and coastal location, for a long time the Airlie region was used for farming, first by settler Thomas Abell, and later by families who purchased lots of land in the area. Today it is more of a holiday resort town, though many residents still participate in hobby farming.

Over 100 years of experience
Over 100 years ago, the first Southern Cross water tank was manufactured by the Griffiths family, after they had experienced success with their Southern Cross windmills in 1903. This gives Southern Cross unique perspective and expertise in handling Australian and Airlie Beach water storage requirements.
With the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank being produced by Southern Cross in the late 60’s, we’ve been a sanctum for over 50 years of continued innovation.
Squatter Tanks were a revolutionary way for Australians to store vast amounts of water in an effecting and economical manner – some of these tanks are still standing to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

When the Southern Cross brand was born of the Toowoomba Foundry, there was no little chance the Griffiths family could have anticipated the brand going on the become an iconic Australian company, still operation over a hundred years later.

Not only does Southern Cross still operate out of Loganholme, we are an Australian owned company, servicing Australians from all walks of life, including irrigators, families, schools and many more.
Reliable in a pinch

In 2015 at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, a water tank built by one of our competitors experienced a structural failure, triggering the tank to rupture, flooding somewhere around 2.5 million litres of water to flood Kawana Way, causing wreckage, and even washing away a family car.

Following this tragedy, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross to build two new tanks on the site, and the quality of these Southern Cross tanks served to set the standard for many commercial projects from that point forward.

Airlie Beach Local Knowledge

Much like the origins of the Whitsunday region in which it sits, the name of Airlie beach (and formerly the town of Airlie) is also religious in origin, having been named after a parish in Scotland, and each year the town celebrates The Blessing of the Fleet on “Whit Sunday” or Pentecost Sunday.
