Woodford Water Tanks

For over a century , Southern Cross have been designing and building water tanks Woodford residents can trust.
Citizens of Woodford can rest assured that they have the backing of one of Australia’s most iconic companies when it comes to water storage and water solutions.
Due to many people in Queensland being mindful of their water harvesting and water storage needs, many still turn to a Southern Cross water tank to help meet their needs.
Rougly 70km north west of Brisbane, and a hop-skip-jump to the west of Bribie Island Woodford is a timber cutting town, and home to around 3500 Queenslanders.

Water Storage Challenges

Despite many people still delighting in rainfall, due to modern infrastructure, like bitumen and concrete, large amounts of rain can build up, causing flash flooding, which can cause damage to homes and the environment.
If you install a water tank and connect it up to a guttering system, you can help minimise the build up of water from rainwater run off, and decrease the possibility of flash flooding.
Occasionally roads in the Woodford area and much of the surrounding Moreton Bay area are closed due to flash flooding from storms and cyclones making their way down from the north. January 2013 alone attracted over 1000mm of rain.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer
Sadly the long hot summers in Woodford leave it, similar to much of Australia, vulnerable to extensive bushfires. Even with the fact that much of Woodford’s rainfall comes in the warmer months, this often leads to long grasses which burn easily.
Thankfully, at Southern Cross we consider ourselves specialists when it comes to fire tanks, and we can fit your property or home with a sufficient fire tank to help protect you from bushfires.
After a bushfire travels through your property, Southern Cross advises that you have your water tank assessed for water safety if you’re going to continue using it for drinkable water. It will continue to be safe for fire protection or gardening.
The Woodford climate
Much like other areas in the South East, Woodford is located in a humid subtropical climate, with warm wet summers, and cooler, drier winters.
The rich soil and sustainable rainfall made Woodford, like many of its neighbouring towns, an ideal logging community, an industry that still powers the Woodford economy today.
Dairying also serves as a major industry in the area, with the rich grasses providing ample feed for cattle.

We can also design and produce tanks that comply with international fire codes if needed.
Over 100 years of experience

Over 100 years ago, the first Southern Cross water tank was manufactured by the Griffiths family, after they had experienced success with their Southern Cross windmills in 1903. This gives Southern Cross one-of-a-kind perspective and experience in handling Australian and Woodford water storage requirements.

With the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank being produced by Southern Cross in the late 60’s, we’ve been a haven for over 50 years of continued innovation.
When Squatter Tanks were introduced to Australia, it equipped people with an effective and economical way of storing substantial amounds of water, and some of these tanks still stand to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

There was no way anyone could have predicted the birth of an Australian icon when the Griffiths family observed the very first windmill roll off the Toowoomba Foundry line over a century ago.

Southern Cross is an Australian owned brand, and we still operate out of Loganholme to this day, assisting Australians from all walks of life, from rural families, to irrigators, to companies on industrial sites – even schools and universities.
Reliable in a pinch

In 2015, a water storage tank at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital suffered a structural failure, causing the tank to flood the close-by Kawana Way with somewhere around two and a half million litres of water, washing away a family vehicle and causing damage to the surroundings.

Following this tragedy, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross to build a pair of new tanks on the site, and the quality of these Southern Cross tanks served to set the benchmark for many commercial projects from that point onward.

Woodford Local Knowledge

Woodford is perhaps most well known for the Woodford Folk Festival, which takes place over the new year every year, and has been running since 1994, attracting local and international performers, such as Missy Higgins and The John Butler Trio.
