Landsborough Water Tanks

For over a hundred years, Southern Cross have been designing and building water tanks Landsborough residents can trust.
Citizens of Landsborough can rest assured that they have the backing of one of Australia’s most iconic companies when it comes to water storage and water solutions.
Many Queensland residents still look to a Southern Cross water tank to help meet their water storage needs, because they are mindful of their water storage requirements, and reliability.
Nestled in the Sunshine Coast region, less than 50km inland of Bribie Island, and less than 100km North of Brisbane, Landsborough sits just off the Bruce highway.

Water Tank Sizes

With a range of tank sizes from 26kL – 600kL in our rural tanks, and from 12kL – 1900kL in our commercial tanks (with sizes outside this range available on request) you can rest assured that we have the right size tank to suit your water storage needs.

Water Storage Challenges

While rain is looked forward to in many areas across Queensland, excessive rain in a short period of time can build up on roads and paving, triggering flash flooding, which can harm houses, assets, and the local ecosystem.
Installing a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help reduce the amount of water building up from stormwater run-off, and lower the likelihood of flash flooding.
Storms in 2017 left 30 streets in need of clean up and repair as running water and fallen trees made the area difficult to navigate.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer
Regrettably, due to much of Australia’s climate, bushfires are a constant risk in the long, hot summers, and Landsborough is no exception. Despite much of the region’s rainfall coming in the summer months, the lush grasses and scorching days can quickly result in brushfires.
However, Southern Cross are the fire tank professionals, and can thoroughly and efficiently fit your property or home with a fire tank to help protect you from wildfires.
After a bushfire it is encouraged to get your water checked for safety if you’re going to be using it for potable or drinking water. However it will still be safe to use for watering the garden or fire security.
The Landsborough climate
Much like other areas in the South East, Landsborough is located in a humid subtropical climate, with warm wet summers, and cooler, drier winters.

The rich soil and sustainable rainfall made Landsborough an ideal logging town for early settlers, and was one of the largest of its type in the area.

Today the logging industry is not as prevalent and the town serves as a tourist stop off for those heading north from Brisbane.

The fire tank specialists

At Southern Cross, we specialise not only in the design and manufacture of world wide water storage systems, but also the installation and service life. We take pride in the quality and design of our fire storage tanks.

We produce, engineer and design all of our water tanks in house, and we can design them for specific applications, including some seismic conditions, and high-wind and cyclonic environments.
Under certain conditions, our tanks can be designed to meet additional international fire codes if required.
Over 100 years of experience

In 1903, the original Southern Cross windmill was manufactured by the Griffiths family at the Toowoomba Foundry, and soon after so was the first Southern Cross water tank, leaving us with unparalleled expertise in taking care of towns like Landsborough’s water storage needs.

Southern Cross has been home to over 50 years of innovation when it comes to Bolted Steel Round Water Tanks, with our first model being built in the late 60s
The first Squatter Tanks provided Australians with effecting and economical ways of capturing and storing large quantities of water– some of these tanks still stand today!
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

When the Griffiths family created the Southern Cross brand out of the Toowoomba Foundry, they almost certainly didn’t know that it would go on to become such an iconic Australian brand, still in operation over a century in the future.

Southern Cross is an Australian owned brand, and we still operate out of Loganholme to this day, assisting Australians from all walks of life, from rural families, to irrigators, to companies on commercial sites– even schools and universities.
Reliable in a pinch

Disaster struck the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2015, when a water tank built by one of our rivals suffered a catastrophic structural failure, rupturing the tanks and washing approximately 2.5 million litres of destructive water over Kawana way, even sweeping away a family car.

In the wake of the disaster, the developer of the University Hospital site enlisted Southern Cross to engineer and manufacture two new water storage tanks for the site, and the high standard engineering for those tanks has since become a measure for future commercial projects to comply to.

Landsborough Local Knowledge

Landsborough was named for the British-born explorer William Landsborough, who was the first European to cross Australia north to south.
