Like much of Central and Northern Queensland, Emu Park suffers cyclones in the wet season, and when cyclone Marcia passed through in 2015, there was widespread damage to the region.

In the aftermath of a bushfire it is highly recommended to get your water checked for safety if you’re going to be using it for potable or drinking water. Having said that it will still be safe to use for watering the garden or fire security.

Emu Park is home to a humid subtropical climate, with dry mild winters, and hot wet summers, but without the humidity of cities and towns in the far north.
Emu Park receives on average just over 1300mm of rainfall annually, mostly thanks to a particularly prosperous wet season in the summer months.
Despite the rainfall, Emu Park has always existed as a town based on tourism and fishing, rather than any primary forms of agriculture.

The fire tank specialists
We at Southern Cross pride ourselves in the stability and design of our fire storage tanks. We’re experts in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of water storage systems for the global fire protection industry.
We produce, engineer and design every one of our water tanks in house, and we can design them for specific applications, including some seismic conditions, and high-wind and cyclonic settings.
We can also design and manufacture tanks that adhere to international fire codes if needed.
Over 100 years of experience
Over a century ago, the first Southern Cross water tank was manufactured by the Griffiths family, after they had experienced success with their Southern Cross windmills in 1903. This gives Southern Cross one-of-a-kind perspective and experience in handling Australian and Emu Park water storage requirements.
In the late 60’s, we built the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank, and have embraced over half a century of innovation and development since then.
When Squatter Tanks were introduced to Australia, it provided individuals with a reliable and economical way of storing large amounts of water, and some of these tanks still remain to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

When the Southern Cross brand was born of the Toowoomba Foundry, there was no way the Griffiths family could have anticipated the brand going on the become an iconic Australian company, still operation over a hundred years later.

As an Australian owned brand who still operate out of Loganholme to this day, Southern Cross is proud to help all manner of Australians with their water storage needs, from farms and irrigators to commercial sites and mine projects.
Reliable in a pinch
In 2015, a water storage tank at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital suffered a structiral failure, causing the tank to flood the nearby Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, washing away a family vehicle and causing damage to the surroundings.
In the wake of the disaster, the developer of the University Hospital site enlisted Southern Cross to engineer and manufacture two new water storage tanks for the site, and the high standard engineering for those tanks has since become a benchmark for future commercial projects to comply to.

Emu Park Facts

Emu Parks Centenary of the ANZAC Memorial is one of the more famous in the state, and in itself serves as a tourist attraction. More than 5000 people attended the ANZAC service in 2018.
