Southern Cross®: Experts in Steel Water Tanks

Over 100 years of experience in building tanks for Australia

Formed out of the Toowoomba Foundry in 1871, the first Windmill under the name Southern Cross® was sold in 1903, and the first Southern Cross® Water Tank followed not long after that.

For over a century, Southern Cross® have been committed to providing Australians with high quality water storage solutions, and our range of steel water tanks is no exception. We have steel and metal water tanks for all purposes, from family homes, to irrigators, to mining and infrastructure, to fire protection, Southern Cross® Water is here to help.

A Range of Water Tanks for All Purposes

Rural Liner Tanks

Need a steel rainwater tank for household or farm use? Look no further than our TL Series Liner Tanks. Steel Water Tanks equipped with a food grade liner designed to keep your rainwater fresh and safe for drinking.

With modern water tank manufacturing, liner technology, and tank installers Australia wide, rainwater harvesting has never been easier, and if you are looking for enough drinking water storage for your entire household’s water storage needs – so that you no longer need to rely on mains water – a steel rainwater tank is the way to go.

Available in a range of capacities from 26kL – 600kL.

Fire Tanks

When it comes to equipping people and businesses with adequate fire protection, Southern Cross® Water are experts. Our steel fire water storage tanks are fire-resistant, meaning they are designed to remain functional even in case of an active fire.

Steel tanks are renowned for being the best performing water storage tanks in fire or bushfire conditions, outperforming poly tanks in both durability and water retention. Where a poly water tank may be prone to buckling or melting under the heat of a fire front, a steel or stainless steel tank will retain its structure, which could prove crucial for fire protection. If this is a rainwater tank used for drinking water, it is recommended that even steel rainwater tanks be inspected for liner damage and water quality after a fire front.

Our fire tanks are AS2419.1 and AS2304 certified, codes related to Fire Protection and Fire Hydrant systems.

Squatter Tanks

Liner free water tanks for storage of large quantities of non-potable water. Southern Cross® Squatter Tanks were one of the first ways of providing a solution for storing large quantities of water at an affordable price.

Squatter tanks are available in a variety of roofed or non-roofed models.

Mining Water Tanks

At Southern Cross® we understand the importance of having reliable and efficient access to water storage on a mine site.

With a range of process water storage tanks, fire protection tanks, and truck fill tanks, Southern Cross® has the steel water tank that is right for your mine site.

Commercial Water Tank Series

Our commercial water tanks come in two variants for water storage, our round YT Series or square ST Series.

YT Series Tanks

✓ Potable Water

✓ Fire Services

✓ Wastewater

Our YT series tanks are pre-fabricated and flat packed on manufacture, in order to ensure easy transportation. This greatly reduces installation time and minimises exposure to occupational health and safety issues.

ST Series GRP Tanks

✓ Fire Sprinkler Systems

✓ Air Conditioning

✓ Building Services

✓ Process Water

✓ Potable Water

Southern Cross® Square Tanks are constructed from chemically inert materials, and are fully prefabricated for ease of transport. Their bolt together design requires no on-site welding. GRP square tanks are equipped with concave drainage panels in order to ensure complete and fast drainage.

Water Storage You Can Rely On

Southern Cross® has a proven record of providing Water Storage Solutions that you can rely on in a pinch.

In 2015 there was a catastrophic structural failure of a storage tank that had been built by one of our competitors at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. This caused that tank to burst, flooding approximately 2.5 million litres of water over the nearby Kawana Way, and even washing away a nearby family car.

In the aftermath of this, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross® to build two replacement 2.7 million litre steel water storage tanks, and ensured they were held to rigorous standards. Those standards are now used as a benchmark in a range of commercial projects to this day, and is just further proof of the quality of service Southern Cross provides.

Southern Cross Water’s Steel Water Tanks use Australian made BlueScope steel, and not only meet, but exceed the Australian standard for water storage. A variety of fittings and access ories are available to suit your needs, and all Southern Cross Water Tanks come in standard Zinc or a range of Colorbond® colours.
