Alice River lies in an inland tropical savanna climate region, with hot wet summers, and mild, much drier winters.
Due to it’s geographical location, and the lack of a lift effect, Alice River has a much drier dry season than most of Queensland – and even slightly drier than that of the Townsville city centre, with an average annual rainfall of over 800mm.
Alice River is built on land that was once used for pastoral and grazing by settlers in the region when nearby Thuringowa and Townsville were developed.

When the first Southern Cross windmill rolled out of the Toowoomba Foundry over a hundred years ago, there was no way the Griffiths family anticipated the brand to grow to become an Australian icon, and still operating in the 21st century.

Reliable in a pinch

In 2015 at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, a water tank built by one of our competitors suffered a structural failure, leading the tank to burst, flooding somewhere around 2.5 million litres of water to flood Kawana Way, causing destruction, and even washing away a family vehicle.

After this, the site developer contacted Southern Cross to engineer and build two new tanks for the site, and the quality of these tanks have become a yardstick for many commercial projects from that point to comply with.
