Casino Water Tanks

Casino is a town in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, It lies on the banks of the Richmond River and is situated at the junction of the Bruxner Highway and the Summerland Way, some 30km from the city of Lismore. Casino is considered the Beef Capital of New South Wales
Southern Cross Water have established a reputation for manufacturing water tanks Lismore residents can depend on.
Like much of the rest of this dry nation of ours, people of New South Wales recognise the importance of high quality water storage solutions, and there remains no better than a water tank.
Within the design and manufacture of every Southern Cross water tank lies over 150 years of experience in helping Australians with their water harvesting needs.

Southern Cross Water Tanks come in a range from 26kL – 600kL in our rural rainwater tanks, and 12kL – 1900kL in our commercial water storage tanks (with sizes outside this range available on request).

If it’s more than just the standard ZINCALUME ® finish you’re looking for, you’re in luck, as all of our water tanks can be finished with any of the COLORBOND ® colours, which will be factory applied prior to shipping.

Water Storage Challenges

Although rainfall is a welcome sight across this dry nation of ours, changing climate conditions leading to heavy storms, and modern facilities such as bitumen and concrete, often leads to the build-up of water and flash flooding, which can cause damage to property and the environment.
A rain water tank, along with ample guttering can hemp to prevent some of this water from entering streets and stormwater systems, helping reduce the risk of stormwater run off.
If a storm deposits 100mm of rainfall in Lismore in a 24 hour period, just 100 dwellings fitted with water tanks can keep 2 million litres of water off of roads and storm drains.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer
Australia is well known for having long warm summers, and if you discount the recognisable outlier in Antarctica, is the driest continent in the world. This, coupled with the life cycle of many native plants, leaves much of New South Wales vulnerable to widespread bushfires.
At Southern Cross, we consider ourselves to be experts in the fire tank industry, and we can fit your home, property or business with an adequate water storage facility to help protect from fire.
Steel water tanks are the most fire resistant on the market, however if a fire front has passed your tank, it is important to have the water quality tested prior to drinking or washing with it. It will still be safe for gardens and fire fighting purposes.
The Casino climate
Casino lies in a sub-tropical climate region, with warm temperate weather, with pleasant summers, and cool winters.
Though an hour’s drive inland, Casino still receives a reasonable amount of rainfall, clocking in at just over 1000mm annually.
The favourable climate and inland location of Casino attracted graziers from an early stage, leading Casino to be the self proclaimed beef capital, hosting the annual Beef Week each year.

Over 100 years of experience

Way back in 1871, a Mr George Washington Griffiths established an ironmongery and mechanical repair shop in Toowoomba that would one day become Southern Cross Windmills.

The first windmill that was Southern Cross by name was manufactured in 1903, and what followed was a suite of water harvesting products including Southern Cross pumps and water tanks.
And it didn’t stop there. Southern Cross have remained committed to supplying Australians with economical and functional water storage solutions, and several of the original squatter tanks from over 50 years ago still stand today!
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy
With Southern Cross windmills and water tanks dotted all over this large nation of ours, the Griffiths brothers would surely be proud and amazed of what an icon the little windmill company they built has become.
While over one hundred years have passed, Southern Cross Water Tanks and Southern Cross Windmills are still manufactured in Queensland to this day.
Reliable in a pinch

Back in 2015 at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in Queensland, a water storage tank experienced a critical failure, which led to the tank splitting, and flooding the road next to it with over two million litres of water, washing away a passenger vehicle in the process.

In the aftermath of this incident, the site’s developer contracted Southern Cross to design and build a pair of new storage tanks for the site, the quality of which have been used as a benchmark and standard for many industrial water projects from then on.
