Water Storage Challenges

While lots of folks delight in rainfall, thanks to modern infrastructure like roadways and paving, too much rain can cause flash flooding, which may be harmful to homes and the local ecosystem.
By installing a roof gutter system, and linking it up to a rainwater tank, you can help prevent large amount of storm water run-off and moderate the possibility of flash flooding.
As Sandstone Point is near many water sources, it is always at risk of flooding, especially during a cyclone or high tide. Storms that run through can build up on roads and infrastructure causing water to run both ways.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer
Australia is well-known for its long hot summers, but unfortunately this leaves us vulnerable to regular bushfires and Sandstone Point is no different. While a lot of the area’s rainfall does fall in the summer months, this produces lush grasses that can easily ignite on the hotter days.
Southern Cross Water are professionals when it involves fire tanks, and can install a fire tank for your home or industrial space to help protect your property in case of bushfire.
In the aftermath of a bushfire it is advised to get your water assessed for safety if you’re going to be utilizing it for potable or drinking water. Having said that it will still be safe to use for watering the garden or fire security.

The Sandstone Point climate

Just over 50km North of Brisbane, and just across the ocean from Bribie Island, Sandstone Point experiences plentiful rainfall and sunshine, resulting in the lush bushland on its National Parks.
With over 1000mm of rain annually, Sandstone Point has made itself a tourist destination, within a short drive of both Brisbane, and the ever popular Bribie Island.
This tourism is the source of the economic and population boom that Sandstone Point has experienced in recent years.

Over 100 years of experience

From the very first Southern Cross windmill wheeling off the Toowoomba Foundry line in 1903, and the original Southern Cross Water Tank over 100 years ago, nobody has experience like we do of working with Sandstone Point and Australia’s unique water storage needs.

In the late 60’s, we built the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank, and have embraced over half a century of innovation and development since then.
The first Squatter Tanks provided Australians with effecting and affordable ways of capturing and storing large quantities of water – some of these tanks still endure today!
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

When the Griffiths family created the Southern Cross brand out of the Toowoomba Foundry, they almost certainly didn’t know that it would go on to end up being such an iconic Australian brand, still in operation over a century later.

Not only does Southern Cross still operate out of Loganholme, we are an Australian owned company, servicing Australians from all walks of life, such as irrigators, families, schools and many more.
Reliable in a pinch

When a water tank constructed by one of our competitors at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital suffered structural failure in 2015, the tank burst, inundating Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, resulting in damaging flooding, and even sweeping away a family vehicle.

After this catastrophe, the sites developer turned to Southern Cross to design and build two new water storage tanks for the site, and the requirements and quality these tanks had to comply to set the benchmark for many future commercial projects.
