While rain is looked forward to in many areas across Queensland, too much rain in a short period of time can build up on roads and paving, leading to flash flooding, which can damage dwellings, property, and the local ecosystem.

Installing a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help in reducing the amount of water accumulating from stormwater run-off, and minimise the risk of flash flooding.

Localities in the Sunshine Coast area often experience large amounts of rainfall that can lead to flooding, and while Doonan may not be as built up as some of its neighbours, it’s low lying, marshy geography leaves it just as susceptible.

Over 100 years of experience

The inaugural Southern Cross windmill was manufactured in the Toowoomba Foundry in 1903, and not far behind was the first Southern Cross water tank, meaning nobody knows the unique storage needs of Doonan and Australia like we do.

In the late 60’s, we built the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank, and have welcomed over half a centuty of innovation and development since then.

Squatter Tanks were a revolutionary way for Australians to store vast amounts of water in an effecting and affordable manner – a number of these tanks are still standing to this day.

As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

There was no way anyone could have predicted the birth of an Australian icon when the Griffiths family observed the very first windmill roll off the Toowoomba Foundry line over a hundred years ago.

As an Australian owned brand who still operate out of Loganholme to this day, Southern Cross is proud to help all manner of Australians with their water storage needs, from farms and irrigators to commercial sites and mine projects.

Reliable in a pinch

In 2015, a water storage tank at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital sustained a structural failure, causing the tank to flood the nearby Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, washing away a family car and causing destruction to the surroundings.

Following this tragedy, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross to construct a pair of new tanks on the site, and the quality of these Southern Cross tanks served to set the benchmark for many commercial projects from that point onward.
