Doonan Water Tanks

At Southern Cross we’ve been building and designing water tanks Doonan residents can rely on for over a century.
People from Doonan can sleep soundly, knowing they have the support of one of Australia’s most iconic water storage and harvesting companies.
Many Queensland residents still look to a Southern Cross water tank to help meet their water storage needs, because they are mindful of their water storage requirements, and reliability.
Split between the Sunshine Coast and Shire of Noosa regions, Doonan is located just over 100km from Brisbane. A quiet green belt sandwiched between Noosaville and Eumundi, Doonan is littered with scenic spots and bed and breakfasts.

Water Storage Challenges

While rain is looked forward to in many areas across Queensland, too much rain in a short period of time can build up on roads and paving, leading to flash flooding, which can damage dwellings, property, and the local ecosystem.
Installing a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help in reducing the amount of water accumulating from stormwater run-off, and minimise the risk of flash flooding.
Localities in the Sunshine Coast area often experience large amounts of rainfall that can lead to flooding, and while Doonan may not be as built up as some of its neighbours, it’s low lying, marshy geography leaves it just as susceptible.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer
Due to Australia’s climate of long hot summers, bushfires are a continuous threat, and Doonan is no exception. Despite much of the rainfall coming in the summer months, this can lead to longer grasses which easily catch alight.
Nevertheless, Southern Cross are the fire tank experts, and can thoroughly and proficiently fit your property or residence with a fire tank to help protect you from wildfires.
If a bushfire has passed through your property, it is advised that you get your water quality examined for safety if you wish to carry on using it for household water. Having said that it will still be safe for gardening or fire security.
The Doonan climate
Typical of most of the South East, Doonan is home to a humid subtropical climate, with warm wet summers, and cooler, drier winters.
Housed amongst stunning rain forests and beautiful scenery, Doonan is home to many bed and breakfasts, cafes, and tourism hot spots, attracting people from all over to its tranquil and beautiful landscape.

The fire tank specialists

As specialists in the servicing, installation, design and manufacture of international water storage systems, we take pride in the design and integrity of our fire tanks.

All of our tanks are designed and engineered in-house, and may be engineered for all uses, including high wind and cyclonic locations, and even specific seismic conditions.
We can also design and manufacture tanks that comply with international fire codes if needed.
Over 100 years of experience

The inaugural Southern Cross windmill was manufactured in the Toowoomba Foundry in 1903, and not far behind was the first Southern Cross water tank, meaning nobody knows the unique storage needs of Doonan and Australia like we do.

In the late 60’s, we built the first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank, and have welcomed over half a centuty of innovation and development since then.
Squatter Tanks were a revolutionary way for Australians to store vast amounts of water in an effecting and affordable manner – a number of these tanks are still standing to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

There was no way anyone could have predicted the birth of an Australian icon when the Griffiths family observed the very first windmill roll off the Toowoomba Foundry line over a hundred years ago.

As an Australian owned brand who still operate out of Loganholme to this day, Southern Cross is proud to help all manner of Australians with their water storage needs, from farms and irrigators to commercial sites and mine projects.
Reliable in a pinch

In 2015, a water storage tank at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital sustained a structural failure, causing the tank to flood the nearby Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, washing away a family car and causing destruction to the surroundings.

Following this tragedy, the site’s developer turned to Southern Cross to construct a pair of new tanks on the site, and the quality of these Southern Cross tanks served to set the benchmark for many commercial projects from that point onward.
