Brisbane Water Tanks

For more than 100 years, Southern Cross Water have been offering water tanks Brisbane residents can put faith in.

Citizens of Brisbane know that they have the support of one of Australia’s most recognisable names in water collection and water storage solutions.
The populace of Queensland are mindful of their water storage requirements, and due to this, many still turn to a Southern Cross water tank to support them in meeting their water harvesting needs.
One of Australia’s more popular tourist destinations, behind only Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane is one of the oldest cities in the country, originally used as a penal settlement for second offenders. In 2015 Brisbane was named one of the 10 Most Beautiful Cities In The World by Rough Guides due to its open green spaces, river views and architecture.

Water Storage Challenges

Despite many people still delighting in rainfall, due to modern infrastructure, like bitumen and concrete, large amounts of rain can  build up, causing flash flooding, which can cause damage to homes and the environment.

Attaching a roof gutter system and a rainwater tank can help reduce the amount of water accumulating from stormwater run-off, and minimise the likelihood of flash flooding.

The Brisbane metropolitan area and its surrounds have a long history of devastating floods, the most recent of which in 2011, when businesses were forced to close and people forced out of their homes. While many new developments are being built on higher ground, many new residences and businesses are still being constructed within the 1974 and 2011 flood zones.
Bushfires and the Australian Summer

Unfortunately, as a result of most of Australia’s climate, bushfires are a constant risk in the long, hot summers, and Brisbane is no exception. Despite most of the region’s rains coming in the summer months, the lush grasses and warm days can quickly result in brushfires.

Southern Cross Water are experts when it involves fire tanks, and can install a fire tank for your home or industrial space to help safeguard your property in the event of bushfire.
If a bushfire has passed through your property, it is recommended that you get your water quality examined for safety if you wish to carry on using it for household water. Having said that it will still be safe for gardening or fire protection.
The Brisbane climate

The humid subtropical climate in Brisbane plays a large part in what makes it such an attractive holiday destination, with warm weather from October through to April, punctuated by summer showers from December to March.

The City of Brisbane boasts over 280 rain free days per year on average, with an annual sunshine hours of 2989, or a whopping 124 whole days of sunshine.
The ideal combination of sunshine and rainfall that now makes Brisbane an ideal tourist destination, once also made it ideal for farming, naval ports and new settlements.

Over 100 years of experience

Over a century ago, the first Southern Cross water tank was manufactured by the Griffiths family, after they had experienced success with their Southern Cross windmills in 1903. This gives Southern Cross unique perspective and experience in handling Australia and Brisbane’s water storage requirements.

Our first Bolted Steel Round Water Tank was built in the late 60’s, and since then Southern Cross has been home to over half a century of ongoing innovation.
When Squatter Tanks were introduced to Australia, it equipped individuals with an effective and affordable way of storing substantial amounds of water, and some of these tanks still remain to this day.
As Aussie as a meat pie at the footy

There was no way anyone could have predicted the birth of an Australian icon when the Griffiths family observed the very first windmill roll off the Toowoomba Foundry line over a century ago.

Southern Cross is an Australian owned brand, and we still operate out of Loganholme to this day, servicing Australians from all walks of life, from rural families, to irrigators, to business on commercial sites– even schools and universities.
Reliable in a pinch

When a water tank constructed by one of our competitors at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital suffered structural failure in 2015, the tank ruptured, flooding Kawana Way with approximately two and a half million litres of water, causing damaging flooding, and even sweeping away a family vehicle.

After this, the site developer contacted Southern Cross to engineer and build two new tanks for the site, and the quality of these tanks have become a yardstick for many commercial projects from that point to comply with.
